An instructional flyer titled "Senior Year Checklist" featuring a graduation cap and clipboard icon, created by MiStudent Aid and MiLEAP. The document outlines recommended steps for high school seniors organized by month: September: Narrow down postgraduation options, start applications and research deadlines, create a MiSSG Student Portal account, meet with a school counselor, and explore dual enrollment or college credit options. October: Work on applications during College Applications Month, file the FAFSA as soon as it opens, apply for local/state/national scholarships, request recommendation letters, and take or retake SAT, ACT, or placement tests. November: Apply for apprenticeships, internships, or early career training programs, and create a basic resume highlighting academics, extracurriculars, and work experience. December: Submit college and program applications due before January, continue scholarship applications, and research housing options (on-campus, off-campus, or alternatives). January: Confirm FAFSA processing and fix errors; submit remaining applications with spring deadlines. February: Continue submitting monthly scholarship applications and attend workshops on budgeting, financial aid, and independent living. March: Monitor acceptance letters and financial aid offers, compare award letters, and visit or revisit top-choice schools/programs. April: Finalize postgraduation plans, submit housing deposits, and complete intent-to-enroll forms. May: Lock in choices by National Decision Day (May 1), apply for summer transition/orientation programs, request final transcript submissions, and register for required placement testing. June & July: Graduate high school, attend college orientation, finalize class schedules, buy needed supplies/tools, complete health forms/vaccinations/background checks, learn basic adulting skills, and celebrate.
