Precautionary K9 Search
Dear Parents and Guardians,
We want to inform you that our downtown campus was in a brief lockdown this morning as part of a routine safety procedure. K9 units conducted a search of the school this morning to ensure the continued safety of all students and staff.
Please be assured that this was a precautionary measure, and there was no threat to our school community. All students and staff remained safe, and normal school activities will resume shortly.
We appreciate your understanding and support as we continue to prioritize the safety of everyone on campus.
OK2SAY Presentations
Dear Parents and Guardians,
Our schools will be hosting a presentation on OK2SAY, Michigan’s student safety program for students in grades 4-12. This program teaches students how to help make their school and community safer by reporting dangerous or concerning behaviors to a trusted adult or directly through OK2SAY.
Please review the attached letter for more information and instructions on how to opt your student out if you choose: Parent\Notification\\Opt-Out\Form.pdf
We also invite parents and guardians to attend an important OK2SAY Parent Presentation on Thursday, November 6, 2025, at 6:15 p.m. in the High School Auditorium.
During this session, you will learn how students can confidentially report safety concerns and how we can collectively promote a culture of awareness and prevention.
For those who prefer to join from home, we’re offering the option to attend via Zoom. To ensure a secure experience, all attendees, both in-person and virtual, must register in advance using our Google Form.
Registered participants will receive the Zoom link before the event.
We encourage all families to attend this valuable presentation to learn more about keeping our students and community safe.
Celebrating our Community
Our 2nd graders have been busy learning all about what makes a community special! As part of a Unit 1 project, students explored who helps make our community a great place to live.
Each student wrote about their favorite parts of our community and illustrated their writing with colorful, detailed drawings. We loved seeing how they noticed the little things that make Iron Mountain such a wonderful place to call home!
Their hard work shows not only their growing writing skills but also their appreciation for the people and places around them. Great job Mountaineers!
McTeacher's Night
Thank you to everyone who participated in MC Teachers Night! We raised a total of $1,293.70 — your support makes a difference! Thank you Killian Management for your continued support!
Thank you Flagstar!
A huge thank-you to Flagstar Bank for their generous donation of school supplies to North Elementary! We appreciate your support of our students and staff.
A special thank-you to Lisa Franzene, Senior Mortgage Loan Officer, and Casey Flaminio, Branch Lead, and April Rugg and Amanda Schiaffino for delivering the donation and for your continued partnership with our school community.
Photo Retake Day
October is National Principals Month
October is National Principals Month, and we are so proud to recognize the outstanding leaders in our district!
At North Elementary, Principal Andy Mendini leads with heart, energy, and a commitment to helping every child discover their love of learning. His encouragement and positivity make North a place where students feel excited to walk through the doors each day.
At our Downtown Campus, Principal Sara Pericolosi and Assistant Principal Tom Thomann work together to guide students and staff with care, dedication, and a true passion for education. Their teamwork and leadership ensure that the Downtown Campus continues to thrive as a place where students are challenged, supported, and celebrated for who they are.
We also celebrate Samantha Roberts, Director of our Homeschool Partnership, who provides families with resources, support, and opportunities to help every student thrive. Her leadership helps us extend learning beyond the traditional classroom and strengthens our community through choice and connection.
Being a school leader is no small task. It means making tough decisions, wearing many hats, and most importantly, putting students first every single day. We are grateful for the way Mr. Mendini, Mrs. Pericolosi, Mr. Thomann, and Mrs. Roberts model resilience, kindness, and a deep commitment to student success.
Please join us in celebrating our principals and directors and letting them know just how much they mean to our Mountaineer family!
À la carte items now available at the "Mountaineer Market"
Dear Families,
We’re excited to share that the cafeteria for grades 5–12 is now offering new à la carte options through the Mountaineer Market, located in the cafeteria during lunch time! These items give students the opportunity to purchase additional snacks and meal items beyond the daily school lunch.
Please note:
We encourage you to talk with your child about these new offerings and ensure their Meal Magic account is funded if they wish to take advantage of the additional options.
Thank you for your continued support as we work to provide healthy, exciting choices for our Mountaineers!
Title I funding is used to offer support services to students who need extra time and instruction to master grade level curriculum. Title I schools are identified through a state formula each year.
A parent letter will be sent home if your child is identified as eligible for support services funded through Title I. Title I services may be short term or long term depending on the needs of each individual student. We are pleased to offer these services to help ALL of our students be successful.
If you have any further questions, please contact your child's building Principal or the District Office.

The district periodically surveys all Iron Mountain Public School families in order to gain insight into family perception of our school and district effectiveness. To ensure we continue to provide high quality, rigorous learning experiences that meet the needs of our learners and prepare them for college and career, we need your and your student's feedback.
